ToggleAnimal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) harnesses the natural bond between humans and animals to promote emotional well-being, build trust, and encourage healing. At R&R Health, we incorporate therapy animals into treatment because their presence creates a calming environment, fosters connection, and helps clients feel safe enough to open up and engage in the recovery process.
Animals offer unconditional acceptance. They do not judge, hold grudges, or expect perfection. For many clients, this simple acceptance provides a level of comfort and connection that is hard to find elsewhere, especially during times of emotional vulnerability. Whether through structured activities or casual interaction, working with animals can reduce stress, lift mood, and inspire hope.
The presence of animals has been shown to lower stress hormones, reduce blood pressure, and increase feelings of happiness and relaxation. In the context of recovery, these benefits can make it easier for clients to participate fully in therapy and cope with challenging emotions.

Working with horses teaches clients patience, nonverbal communication, and emotional regulation. Horses respond authentically to human emotions, providing immediate feedback that can lead to breakthroughs in self-awareness.
