ToggleDialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a structured, skills-based approach designed to help individuals manage intense emotions, reduce conflict in relationships, and make more effective decisions under stress. Originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder, DBT has since proven highly effective for a range of mental health and substance use challenges.
At R&R Health, DBT is used to help clients find the balance between accepting themselves as they are while working toward meaningful change. This balance fosters a sense of empowerment, stability, and self-respect, which can be transformative for those who have struggled with emotional regulation and impulsive behaviors.
DBT is built around four key skill areas, each of which is taught and practiced during treatment:

Our clinicians deliver DBT in both individual and group therapy formats. Group sessions provide a supportive environment for learning and practicing skills, while individual sessions help clients apply these tools to their personal challenges. Between sessions, clients often receive structured exercises to reinforce their learning and track their progress.
We also integrate DBT skills into experiential and holistic therapies, allowing clients to practice mindfulness during surf therapy, apply distress tolerance while hiking or in yoga sessions, and strengthen communication during group activities.
Our goal with DBT is to help clients gain mastery over their emotions and responses, leading to improved mental health, stronger relationships, and a more grounded sense of self. With these skills, clients can navigate life’s challenges with resilience and purpose.
You do not have to face this alone. Whether you are seeking help for yourself or a loved one, our admissions team will guide you every step of the way.
